Deck the halls with boughs of holly
Fa la la la la, la la la la

I have come to the conclusion that people begin stressing over Christmas earlier and earlier each and every year.   The malls put up their Christmas decorations way too early, in my opinion.  Several of my neighbors had their Christmas lights on at Thanksgiving.

Christmas is a time to celebrate and have fun, hence the Fa la la la la, la la la la.  There are cookies and special treats to bake.  Gifts to purchase, make, and wrap. Christmas trees and mantels to decorate.

As Christmas day fast approaches, I have friends who are stressing about so many things, from whether they need to spend extra money to buy a hostess gift to take to a Christmas party, wondering if they have enough gifts to offer a great and memorable Christmas for their kids due to job loss and current economic conditions, to worrying about how to get out of attending specific Christmas events to avoid spending time with certain people.

Christmas can be a season of much stress and anxiety.  If you allow it to be. Don’t let yourself become bogged down in obligations and commercialism.

We are supposed to be decking the halls!  Enjoying friends and family. Spending time with the ones we love.  Celebrating the spirit of the season.

‘Tis the season to be jolly
Fa la la la la, la la la la

Anxiety can find us anywhere we are; however, all we have to do during the Christmas season, or any time, is to pray Philippians 4:7 “and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”  Peace only comes from knowing the blessed assurance of our Lord and Savior for we are always safe when we rest in the security of our salvation in Christ.

The real reason for us to celebrate Christmas is the most precious gift of all — our Emmanuel:

For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.  –  Isaiah 9:6

Verse 7 proceeds to tell us that “Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end“.  Endless.  Eternal.  Everlasting.

There is no better time than Christmas to remember the real reason for the season.  For He, dear friend, is the true source of our joy and peace.

This is the real reason for us to deck the halls.

Sing we joyous, all together.
Fa la la la la, la la la la

May the joy and peace of the Christmas season be with you and yours now and throughout the year.
